![]() with ease 2006-06-17 Boy, has it been a long time since i was here. I was cleaning out my thumbdrive and computer of all my old project work stuff and it brought back memories. Anyway, I figured that might as well kill two birds with one stone. Here's my I&R so as to clear the air around here as well as to clear my PW stuff. An acronym is a useful way to remember important things and has been a lifesaver for many students. To remember this stage in my education years, I have come up with my own acronym, the 5 ‘E’s that best capture Project Work and my brief encounter with it. Be EXCEPTIONAL. One of the stumbling blocks for us was in coming up with our proposal because we had just too many ideas. In the end, we decided to come up with something unique AND useful. Our proposal of implementing the EZ Link mode of payment in departmental stores is the result of Shi Han’s Preliminary Ideas and our own modifications. The whole aim is to make shopping more enjoyable by having seamless transactions. After all, almost everyone indulges in retail therapy now and then. You have to ECONOMIZE at times. Cost is an important issue. Mr. Ong raised this during our interview with Metro. One contentious issue is that of the high rental cost of $100 per month for each reader. This might be costly in the beginning but in the long term, it might be more easily covered as more people use the system. To save on costs, we suggested making use of the barriers available in our system into a self-service system where transactions are faster and cashiers can offer more personalized services. The economizing part was also felt in our Written Report. We learnt how to be succinct in making our point. EFFICACY is the main aim of our proposal, in that transactions are faster and accurate. As such, our proposal has to constantly be up to date with the constant changes in technology. Another idea of ours was the use of Radio Frequency Identification Technology for seamless transactions as goods can be scanned and identified automatically. It is the same with the coordination of tasks like surveys. EN MASSE, onwards. Working in a team can be hard, at first. As the leader, I have to coordinate tasks like interviews and conduct meetings. Communication is therefore very important. We always have to work around deadlines so every task must be properly allocated and done within time. There must be no duplications or absences. Despite these obstacles, I found that by being in a group, there are more ideas generated and this is seen by the constant modifications to our proposal. Things get done faster too. ELAN is important, especially during interviews. We have to do research so that we have more ideas and points to discuss. We learnt this the hard way after our first interview with QB Pte. Ltd. Also, I have to ensure that my group members are properly motivated despite shortcomings like Takashimaya’s rejection to hold an interview. We have to have the élan to bounce back. These ‘E’s sum up only a part of what I’ve learned in Project Work. It is taxing, but from there, I learnt the values of perseverance and resilience. Perhaps my ‘ E’s would translate into EE; Exceeding Expectations that is. Toodles
